Meet Our Master Ceramicist

Muhammet Onat was born in 1977 in the Bayramiç district of Çanakkale. His first encounter with ceramics was in the Kutlu Bozkurt workshop while he was still in middle school. This encounter turned into a passion that changed Onat's life radically. Onat took the basic steps by learning mold-casting techniques in the Kutlu Bozkurt workshop where he started as an apprentice, and later became a master on the lathe in the workshop of Muammer Akça.

After an intense period filled with apprenticeship during the day and self-development efforts in the evenings, he returned to the same workshop as a master at the age of 18. After working with experienced masters such as İsmail Bütün, Abdülkadir Ateş and Ahmet Özdere, he completed his military service and established his own workshop under the name "Otantik Seramik".

In 2009, it reached a capacity close to mass production, based entirely on handcraft, with a team of approximately 20 people in its institutionalized workshop. In 2018, it opened a shop in Aynalı Çarşı with the brand "Onat Seramik" and started retail sales. Reaching its customers with souvenirs and various handcrafted ceramic products, Onat also organized workshops to share its knowledge and experience, carried out firing events and organized ceramic workshops with disabled children.

Taking part in projects such as Anadolu Sigorta's "1 Master Thousand Masters" and "Altın Eller Art Festival", Onat participated in ceramic events in many cities of Turkey. With the support of Çanakkale Municipality, Governorship and Culture Directorate, he organized ceramic workshops in Istanbul, Izmir, Germany and Balkan countries and introduced his art to the world.

Today, Muhammet Onat, who continues to produce custom products for customer requests under the Onat Ceramic brand, maintains his commitment to handmade production. Starting out with his passion for ceramics, from a young apprentice to one of the respected masters of the sector today, Onat continues to create works of art from clay.
